Guanajuato is breaking new ground for Mexican wine and its international standing.
Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo announced on her social media the launch of the CMB International Gala Guanajuato 2026, an unprecedented event that will bring together, for the first time in the history of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the world’s finest wines and spirits for a single evening on November 30 and December 1.
On behalf of the Governor of the State, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, received the news and noted that this designation confirms the strength of the Guanajuato wine sector and the strategic vision of the People’s Government to promote wine tourism as one of the pillars of the development of tourism in Guanajuato.
The designation of Guanajuato as the founding venue for the CMB International Gala in 2026 and 2027 confirms that Mexico and Guanajuato are ready to bring together “The Best of Wine in a Single Night.” For decades, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has established itself as one of the world’s most influential wine and spirits competitions, evaluating more than 15,000 products annually from over 55 countries.
“Today, new paths are opening up, both in terms of identity and future, for wine tourism in Guanajuato and Mexico, hand in hand with this incredible industry,” said Robles Leon.
Guanajuato wine is consolidating its position as one of the fastest-growing segments in Mexico.
Currently Guanajuato is:
- 4th largest national wine producer
- 5th largest national producer of wine grapes
- 64 wine projects, 27 of which offer high-value tourist experiences
- Produces more than 1.6 million bottles a year
- 130 labels on the market
- More than 600 hectares planted with grapes
- 21 types of grapes grown
- Generates an industry worth over 600 million pesos
- Links more than 20 sectors in its value chain
Also, the wines of the Independence Valley have obtained more than 450 national and international awards in recent years, strengthening the recognition of Guanajuato in global markets.
As part of the State strategy with the Governor’s vision, Guanajuato is consolidating the Wine Route of the Valley of Independence, a wine tourism corridor that integrates vineyards, wineries, historic towns and cultural experiences where wine, history and national identity intertwine.
The Wine Harvest Festivals also became a strategic focus of wine tourism, celebrating wine culture as a living expression of the territory and generating economic and social benefits in each region.
Wine is a central part of the wine and gastronomy tourism strategy, linked to traditional and contemporary gastronomy, mezcal and tequila with designation of origin, and Guanajuatense hospitality.
During FITUR 2026 in Madrid, Guanajuato’s wine tourism activity was recognized by Grupo Excelencias.
The Secretary thanked the president of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Baudouin Havaux, as well as Carlos Borboa, Director of the Mexico Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, for once again placing their trust in Guanajuato, after the successful Brussels World Competition held in Leon in 2024, the first edition held in America.
The CMB International Gala Guanajuato will include a gala dinner paired with Guanajuato wines, an exclusive tasting featuring some of the world’s finest wines, and a unique international awards ceremony.
“Today, wines and spirits are opening new doors for Guanajuato and for Mexico. We look forward to seeing you this November 2026 in Guanajuato, the world capital that celebrates the best in the world,” said Lupita Robles.
