The Safe Roads Plan in Guanajuato of the State Highway Police (PEC), maintains permanent coverage on more than 4,000 kilometers of state and federal highways
Guanajuato/Gto News
In response to increased travel due to holidays, celebrations, and the end of the year, the Secretary of Security and Peace is reinforcing surveillance through the Safe Highways Plan, and is also issuing recommendations to protect Guanajuatense families and those visiting Guanajuato.

The Plan has permanent coverage on more than 4,300 kilometers of state and federal highway network, and includes the operation of eight strategic stations and one substation located in nine municipalities:
- Guanajuato City, Dolores Hidalgo, San Miguel de Allende, Celaya, Acambaro, Moroleon, Salamanca, Penjamo and Leon

As part of this comprehensive strategy, the Secretary of Security and Peace presents the following road safety recommendations for those planning to travel during this period:
- Identify the safest route: research toll costs and calculate the time needed to reach your destination. Traffic increases during this season, so it’s important to drive at a relaxed pace
- Check the vehicle before leaving: make sure it is in good mechanical condition for the trip
- Respect traffic regulations: pay attention to speed limits, signage, information panels, and the instructions of state highway patrol officers

Avoid distractions while driving: don’t use your cell phone
Always wear your seatbelt: it is one of the main protective measures against accidents, even against drivers who are driving under the influence of harmful substances
Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs: doing so increases the risk of causing accidents that endanger your life and the lives of others
Bring a first aid kit: include basic tools, a spare tire, water, non-perishable food, and a flashlight
Drive preferably during daylight hours: inform family members or trusted people of your itinerary and estimated time of arrival

Remember that the PEC will maintain stations with fixed points, but surveillance is continuous through operational cells made up of two patrols and four police officers, responsible for guarding stretches of 40 kilometers on average, which allows for a visible, close police presence and faster response times to any eventuality.
The Secretary of Security and Peace reminds the public that in any irregular situation, an anonymous report can be made at:
- Dial 089, or 911 in case of emergency
- These lines are available 24 hours a day
