The anniversary of the Sierra de Lobos Protected Natural Area is commemorated. The People’s Government strengthens actions for the protection of biodiversity

The Secretary of Water and Environment is permanently promoting actions for the conservation and protection of Protected Natural Areas.
An example of this coordinated teamwork that is being consolidated for the care of the environment in the People’s Government under the leadership of Libia Denisse Garcia Munoz Ledo, are the actions done in the Sierra de Lobos, classified as a unique natural place in the State of Guanajuato.
For this year, and as part of the eighth Conservation Week, the Secretary has scheduled a series of activities to commemorate the 28th Anniversary, which was held from November 3rd to 9th.
Some of the activities in which people participated were:
- Biodiversity of Protected Natural Areas
- Reforestation
- Talks on nature conservation in Protected Natural Areas
- Wildlife identification tour
- Photographic exhibitions
The Protected Natural Area covers an area of 127,058.04 hectares and is located in the northeast of Guanajuato, in the municipalities of Leon, San Felipe, Ocampo, and Silao.
This corner and wonder of nature was declared a Protected Natural Area on November 4, 1987, and is one of the most important forest areas in Guanajuato.
In this area at least 24 plant families are reported, among which the following stand out:
- Oak forests with 49 species
- 43 species of oak-pine forests
- Sub-thornless scrubland in which more than 40 species are identified
A great diversity of fauna has also been identified in this region, such as:
- 176 species of birds, 40 of reptiles, 33 of mammals, and 7 amphibians
One of the most important animal groups is the birds, for whom the ecosystems constitute areas of refuge, nesting, breeding, feeding, as well as hibernation for migratory species
As part of its anniversary, activities will be carried out during November in the Yuriria Lagoon and Siete Luminarias Protected Natural Areas of Valle de Santiago.
The People’s Government, through the Secretary of Water and the Environment, strengthens its commitment with the preservation of Guanajuato’s Protected Natural Areas.
