Thousands of families enjoy the Balloon Festival

Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo inaugurated the 23rd edition of the Festival of Festivals, which, for the first time, allowed free access

From November 14 to 17, more than 200 hot air balloons, from 25 countries, will fly in the skies over Leon

“We are very excited to share with you this event that fills the skies of Leon with magic and fills all of Guanajuato with pride. And today, for the first time in history, we have People’s Friday, a day when everyone can go in for free, so that no one misses out on enjoying this wonderful spectacle,” said Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo at the opening of the International Balloon Festival.

People’s Friday is an initiative of Governor Libia Dennise, which allowed free access for thousands of families, who enjoyed the opening of the 23rd edition of FIG.

The day began with the unfurling of the monumental flag by members of the Secretary of Defense, followed by the Honors to the National Flag, while planes of the Mexican Air Force flew overhead.

While thousands of attendees sang the National Anthem in unison, the hot air balloon pilots activated their flamethrowers simultaneously, an action that thrilled those present.

“Events like this invite us to gather as a family, to be surprised and admire the magic of the colors of these 200 balloons that will be soaring through the skies of Leon,” said the State Governor, who was with Alejandra Gutierrez Campos, Mayor of Leon.

Once the protocol was completed, the hot air balloons began to take off, coming from 25 countries, which on this occasion included 30 special figures, ten of which will debut for the first time in the sky of Leon.

Among the most anticipated figures are:

• Swiss Cow (Switzerland), Hammerhead Shark (Brazil), Save Me (Lithuania) and the official Disneyland balloon, which celebrates its 70th anniversary by flying for the first time outside the United States, with Mickey and Minnie Mouse as the main characters

The International Balloon Festival presents two major social innovations this year: the People’s Caravans, which will take hot air balloons to different municipalities in Guanajuato, and the People’s Pavilion, where products with the Marca Guanajuato will be exhibited and sold, strengthening local consumption and regional identity.

In addition, FIG 2025 will feature a top-notch musical lineup that will appeal to audiences of all ages. 

The Artists:

• On Friday the 14th, Gloria Trevi will perform
• On Saturday the 15th, The Dream Nite will take place, featuring international DJs Dimitri Vegas and Afrojack in an unprecedented electronic music show
• On Sunday the 16th, the musical closing will be by singer Carin Leon

The International Balloon Festival is one of the world’s largest celebrations of its kind and one of Mexico’s most emblematic tourist events.
