Leon/Gto News

The Solis Aqueduct is a project long awaited by Guanajuatenses. It represents a significant effort by the State and Federal governments to address the water shortage problem. To provide the public with more information about this project, the website agua.guanajuato.gob.mx/aguaparalagente is now open.

The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, informed it on the broadcast of the program “Connecting with the People” , in which she was with Jorge Jimenez Lona, Secretary of Government; Marisol Suarez Correa, Secretary of Farming; and Jose Lara Lona, Secretary of Water and Environment.

“This portal will provide the public with all the information on this topic. It is a reliable source for resolving doubts and combating misinformation, as well as providing certainty about these projects that will not take water away from anyone, but on the contrary, are key to the water supply in the future,” explained Libia Dennise.

This microsite has several sections, including the explanation that no more water will be used, nor will water be taken from the municipalities; the only volume that will be allocated to the project will be that which is saved thanks to the modernization of irrigation.

Libia Dennise insisted in her invitation to the public to learn about this project, because it will bring significant benefits. Meetings will continue in the municipalities to listen to and address questions about the project, to ensure a reliable water supply for future generations.

The Governor explained that Guanajuato is the only State in Mexico that has three water projects, which are part of the National Water Program and as part of the National Agreement for the Human Right to Water and Sustainability:

  • The Technification of Irrigation District 011
  • The Construction of the Solís Aqueduct
  • The Sanitation of the Lerma River

In Irrigation District 011 Alto Río Lerma, 10,207 hectares will be modernized; 120 Mm3 of water will be recovered, and 25,258 producers will benefit.

And in the Solis Aqueduct Project, no additional water will be used, nor will the water allocated to agriculture be reduced.

And to address the concerns about the Solis Aqueduct project, the socialization process with the municipalities involved and their City Councils began last week, in order to move forward in providing this specific information, the Governor added.

Top-level officials from CONAGUA are participating, along with the People’s Government team, including the Secretary of Government, the Secretary of Agriculture, and the Secretary of Water, to address all questions and concerns.

The Secretary of Government reiterated that the meetings were held last Thursday and Friday to address questions and clarify that this project is for supplying water for human consumption, that it will result in savings, and that producers will benefit; the wells will not be touched.

Questions were answered for the municipalities that attended like:

  • Acambaro, Salvatierra, Jerecuaro, Tarimoro, Celaya, Cortazar, Villagran, Silao, and Irapuato.
