The Ministry of Culture of Guanajuato , in coordination with the 53rd International Cervantino Festival and as part of the FIC Circuit , presents Petrushka , by Igor Stravinsky, an interdisciplinary show that combines puppet theater and live music by the Spanish company Per Poc , in collaboration with the Guanajuato State Music Band.

Inspired by Vaslav Nijinsky’s original ballet, premiered in 1911 by Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, Petrushk evokes the artistic atmosphere of the early 20th century through the expressive use of string puppets, live music, and visuals that draw the audience into a heartfelt story. The action takes place at a Russian fair during the Maslenitsa holiday, where a Magician brings three puppets to life: the Moor, the Ballerina, and Petrushka. Upon discovering the human world, these inanimate beings experience complex feelings for the first time: love, desire, jealousy, and melancholy.
Per Poc’s work, an international benchmark in puppet theater, is distinguished by its integration of visual arts, music, and stage movement. Its work has been presented at institutions such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Radio France, the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight, and the Vienna Konzerthaus, and it has collaborated with more than 50 symphony orchestras around the world. The company has also ventured into film with directors such as Terry Gilliam and Maite Carpio.
The Guanajuato State Music Band, with a distinguished history of symphonic repertoire and interdisciplinary collaborations, accompanies this performance with the rhythmic energy and orchestral color characteristic of Stravinsky, whose vibrant and theatrical score enhances the visual and emotional experience of the show.
With a running time of approximately 50 minutes without intermission, Petrushka is recommended for families and children, who will find this production a sensitive gateway to the performing arts and music.
Tickets at Purísima del Rincón are available at $50 pesos, with a discount of $37 pesos. Tickets can be purchased at the Teatro de la Ciudad de Purísima box office Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., as well as two hours before the performance.
In León the prices of tickets range from $60 to $110 pesos, and are available at the Roberto Plasencia Saldaña Bicentennial Theater box office and at Ticketmaster.
