The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, attended the presentation of the play “The Other Othello” at the facilities of the Center for Prevention and Social Reintegration (Ceprereso) in Leon.

This work is part of the official program of the 53rd International Cervantino Festival (FIC), and is notable for being the first time that a production has been presented by a total of 52 inmates.

“For the first time at the Cervantino Festival, we’re going to present a play, created entirely, set design, costumes, adaptation, acting, and direction, by incarcerated people. This fills us with great emotion because it means working through culture for true social reintegration,” said the Governor of the People.

“We are convinced that true social reintegration, not just as rhetoric, but as a true public policy, will allow you to have a new beginning of hope when you leave here,” said the State Governor.

This performance aims to help incarcerated people develop positive habits, learn discipline, strengthen respect for rules, and find new ways to express their emotions.

“The Other Othello” was recorded by TV4 and will soon be broadcast on its channel. It is also part of the Ruelas Project, a community theater initiative promoted as part of the 53rd International Cervantino Festival (FIC), which will take place from October 10 to 26.

As part of the presentation, Governor Libia Dennise witnessed the signing of an agreement between the heads of the Secretary of Culture and Security and Peace to bring workshops and cultural activities to Guanajuato prisons.

“Our Penitentiary System has a very special place in the construction of the peace strategy, because we believe more can be done. For us in the Government of the People, culture changes lives, and that is why we are here today, signing this agreement that will allow us to increase the culture in these spaces,” said Libia Dennise.
