“You are not alone; you have a government that listens to you and supports you. Today, we reaffirm this commitment and conviction to ongoing support. You have a government that walks with you, that listens to you, and that will never close the door on you,” said Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, while leading the meeting of the State Person Search System.

In the event for the 5th anniversary of the creation of the “State Commission for the Search for Persons,” the Governor noted the work done and acknowledged that efforts must continue to transform the reality of families through ongoing listening.

“There is something that violence cannot destroy, and that is the indissoluble and indestructible bond of love we feel for our loved ones. Neither violence nor the passage of time will break that bond,” said the Governor of the People at this meeting with searchers, where a plaque was also unveiled to commemorate the work done by the State Commission of Search for Persons.

“Today we embrace the cause of searching mothers. Today, in front of my team, I reiterate that we will continue working with conviction and empathy,” was the Governor’s commitment.

The Attorney General, Gerardo Vazquez Alatriste, presented the digital tools developed by the Attorney General’s Office to strengthen search processes: an age progression system to project what missing persons would look like today; a tracking mechanism since the location of bodies to their return; and a platform to track identified and unclaimed bodies.

The State Commission for the Search for Persons was created following the publication of the Law for the Search for Missing Persons of the State of Guanajuato on June 3, 2020, and formally began operations on July 3 of the same year. Since then, it has been a key instrument for coordinating institutional, social, and family efforts to locate missing persons in Guanajuato.

On July 30, 2020, the State Person Search System was also implemented, consolidating collaboration of State, Municipal, and Federal authorities and family groups.

The Commission has received 13,723 reports of missing persons, of which 7,102 people have been located alive and 1,202 dead.

Guanajuato is the only State in the country with municipal search cells in its 46 municipalities. Innovation has been achieved in searches, with interventions in more than 200 rehabilitation centers, where people who didn’t know who they were have been identified and reunited with their families.
