Guanajuato closes June with the lowest number of intentional homicides in eight years, with a daily average of 5.7 victims

Guanajuato/Gto News

Continuing the positive trend and the results observed since March 2025, with preliminary data from the Security Board, the sustained reduction in intentional homicides continues in June.

In June Guanajuato recorded a total of 171 victims, equivalent to a daily average of 5.7. This absolute figure is the lowest in the last eight years, pending validation by the Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System. With this, the preliminary rate of intentional homicides for the month is 2.62 per 100,000 inhabitants, placing the State in seventh place nationwide.

These advances are part of a strategy that has transformed the public security model in Guanajuato since the creation of the Operational Coordination of the New Anti-Crime Intelligence Force (CONFIA). This structure has incorporated unprecedented capabilities, such as the creation of the Undersecretary of Operational Intelligence, the strengthening of the Undersecretary of Prevention, the State Intelligence Center, and the Anti-Extortion Squad. All of this has made it possible to respond to criminal phenomena with intelligence, proximity, investigation, and strategy.

Guanajuato is the protagonist of its own security strategy. It has spearheaded institutional actions with measurable results, and at the same time has provided support to federal forces when required, in actions of coordination and shared responsibility.

During June:

  • Four judicial orders -orders issued by judges- were executed
  • 51 ministerial orders -instructions issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office during the investigative phase-
  • 321 presentations (before a judge) were made
  • 260 people were arrested, many of them as a result of investigations rather than just arrests in flagrante delicto

In the fight against drug dealing:

  • 14,537 doses of drugs were seized
  • With an estimated black market value of more than 1.2 million pesos

These actions contribute not only to reduce the circulation of narcotics, but also to protect school, social, and productive environments that can be compromised by drug dealing.

In June Authorities seized:

  • 17 handguns, 25 long guns, 1,876 live rounds of ammunition
  • An increase of more than 5,000% compared to June of the previous year
  • 31 magazines, and 124 knives
  • 72 motorcycles (up 85%)
  • 64 vehicles (up 113%)
  • 25 tractor-trailers
  • 1,015 pieces of merchandise, with an estimated commercial value of 3’156,800 pesos

The Official also highlighted the seizure of 5 million 531 thousand 040 pesos in cash by the State Highway Police, as a result of the inspection of a valuables transport unit that presented irregularities, in accordance with the Federal Law for the Prevention and Identification of Operations with Illicit Proceeds.

In terms of hydrocarbons, 61,598 liters of fuel and derivatives were seized. Regarding illegal materials, goods, and merchandise, 3,156,000 pesos worth of merchandise was recovered, including loads of refrigerators, industrial hose, sodium bicarbonate, calcium nitrate, pork, wood, lard, and wire rod.

The Anti-Extortion Squad received 125 reports through the 800 TE CUIDO hotline (800 832 8436), including 10 cases of virtual kidnapping. The timely response prevented 2’436,080 pesos from going into the hands of criminals.

Since its creation, the Squad has received 660 requests for support and prevented illicit transfers totaling 35.4 million pesos. These actions represent a direct impact on the criminal economy and a deterrent to extortion and fraud schemes.

These results reflect the daily work of the members of the Secretary of Security and Peace, and the collaboration with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) of the Government of Mexico, the National Intelligence Center (CNI), the Secretary of National Defense (SEDENA), the National Guard (GN), the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR), and the Municipal Police Forces.

They are also the result of citizen trust, which, through reports to the 089 hotline, has contributed to locate people, securing property, and preventing crimes.
