In order to make tourism a force that transforms communities, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI) continues to strengthen the professionalization of people in the sector through the State Tourism Training Program.

During June, the program benefited more than 500 people in 27 municipalities through more than 16 training activities in various areas.

One of those faces is Judith, general manager of Bodega 4, who participated in a course on food and beverage cost control. “I found it very interesting. It’s truly a tool that will help us all make good decisions, take care and have better control over our restaurant’s expenses and supplies.”

From urban areas to rural communities, the program offers workshops and courses that address basic, technical, and strategic topics, providing real-world tools to those who keep tourism alive in Guanajuato.

In another part of Guanajuato, Maria Escobar, originally from the community of La Aldea in the municipality of Doctor Mora, joined the innovation workshop for traditional cooks. “They gave us insights into topics we weren’t familiar with. Something very important that I liked was knowing how to put a price and value on what we do, on our dishes, and on our work.”

The diverse profiles served -waiters, traditional cooks, entrepreneurs, managers, tour guides- demonstrate a strategy driven by the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, who recognizes that tourism begins with warm and friendly attention to visitors.

The topics covered in the SECTURI training include:

  • Basic training for waiters and waitresses, basic social media management, customer service, conflict management and resolution, costs in the food and beverage industry, tangible and intangible cultural heritage, branding, developing basic skills for waiters, and innovation in traditional cuisine

Gabi, from the Tres Mulatas Cultural Cafeteria, received training in basic skills for waiters and waitresses. “The trainer is very good, and the topics we’re covering are very important to our training.”

Vicente, a waiter at Tradicion de Yucatan, enthusiastically stated that “I found the course excellent, as I’m learning several things I didn’t know before.”

From the hotel sector, Yolanda Gamis, general manager of the Hotel Hacienda del Santuario, highlighted the value of these learning spaces: “We took away a lot of knowledge and a lot of work to implement. We are grateful for these types of courses that are offered to us and that are promoted so we can gain experience and knowledge.”

During July, SECTURI will continue this training work, reaffirming its commitment to those who, day after day, build a solid, competitive, and deeply human tourism experience.

Citizens and tourism service providers interested in training, should consult the monthly calendar of these training events on SECTURI’s official channels.
