On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Executive and Judicial Branches of Power delivered to the State Congress 2 key drafts to eradicate violence against women and guarantee them a life free of violence.
This is a historic event, in which the Executive and Judicial Powers propose to the Legislative Power these initiatives in favor of Guanajuatense women.
“To all the women of Guanajuato, this message is for you: You are not alone. The Powers of the State are here to support you and guarantee that living without violence is an inalienable right”, said the Governor of Guanajuato.
“Today, Guanajuato says NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN; together we can build a state where every woman lives with freedom, security and dignity,” said Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo.
Aware of the magnitude of this challenge and the commitment required to face it, the Judiciary and the Executive Branch have designed forceful and transformative strategies to protect women’s rights.
These are the initiatives that mark a new direction:
- 1.- Mixed Specialized Courts (Judicial Branch) Judges specialized in family violence will have mixed jurisdiction, which will allow them to address both family and criminal matters. This change will guarantee more comprehensive, expeditious and specialized attention in cases of family violence, strengthening the protection of victims based on applicable legislation
- 2.- Women’s Police: Gender Violence Response Unit (Executive Branch) The Governor presented the plan to create a specialized police institution to respond to and prevent gender violence. This unit will be trained to deal with crimes that affect women in any field, providing immediate protection and preventive measures
The initiatives demonstrate an institutional, transversal and coordinated commitment, aimed at transforming structures, guaranteeing justice and preventing future attacks on women in Guanajuato.
“This unprecedented effort reaffirms that the eradication of violence against women is a priority on the state agenda”, said Libia Dennise.
“Together, we are moving towards a more just and safe Guanajuato for all women,” said the Governor of Guanajuato.
The Initiatives were presented by the General Director of the Institute for Women of Guanajuato, Itzel Balderas Hernandez; and the Magistrate Ma. Cristina Cabrera Manrique, with the Head of the Legal Counsel of the Executive, Alejandro Sierra Lugo, to the General Secretary of the State Congress, Javier Alfonso Torres Mereles.
