Leon was the first meeting place of the National Business Tourism Meeting, an organization that -as time has gone by- became the most important National Congress of the Meetings Industry (CNIR) in Mexico and which this year celebrates, in the same city of Guanajuato, its XXX edition.

For the third time -the first time it was held in 2001 and the second in 2012-, this thriving industry, which works on the positioning of state, national and international destinations, meets in this third largest city of Mexico and 4th. national destination in Meeting Tourism.

In this edition, the “Roberto Plascencia Saldana” Bicentennial Theater was the setting for Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato, to inaugurate this great event that has the objective of establishing strategies and guidelines for the future of this significant industry.

Present at this inauguration were Michel Wohlmuth Rosenfeld, President of the Mexican Council of the Meetings Industry (COMIR); Miguel Torruco Marques, Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, the Union of Secretaries of Tourism of Mexico (ASETUR), around 700 specialists from the Meetings Industry, as well as private and public state initiatives.

During the inaugural celebration, Alvarez Brunel unveiled the commemorative plaque for the 45th anniversary of the Poliforum Leon, a unique complex in Mexico with 67 hectares, 10 spaces for events, a business area, an entertainment area, and a cultural area, as a congress venue, international exhibitions and conventions, pioneer of the meetings industry and one of the most important in Mexico.

“Guanajuato is a leading destination in this segment and is home to large events that generate an important economic impact on the destinations, benefiting the tourism value chain. In Guanajuato we are prepared to attend any international event, we have industry professionals who have been trained and prepared to attend and offer all supplies to the MICE segment,” noted Juan Jose Alvarez.

Guanajuato continues to work for this industry and has generated real benefits in cities such as Leon, Silao, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato Capital, Celaya, Irapuato, MICE destinations that have invested in specialized infrastructure for events such as the development of talent and capital human, thus transforming Guanajuato into a world model in the field of events.

Prior to the inauguration of the XXX edition of the National Congress of the Meetings Industry (CNIR), the presentation of the book was held at Poliforum Leon: “30 Editions, a legacy: celebrating our CNIR”.

This book tells the history of the Congress since it held the first edition, showing a photo gallery and presenting testimonies from leaders of the Meetings Industry.
