“Today our country has many challenges in terms of security, and I have the firm conviction and vision that the more women participate, the conditions of peace will be easier to achieve, that is, we provide a different vision to the problems we face”, noted Sophia Huett Lopez, Executive Secretary of the State Public Security System as she launched the second course for Strengthening Women’s Leadership in Security Institutions.

I am certain that in security we need a greater number of women, said Huett Lopez, “when a woman enters public security the woman changes, we have many changes, but when many women participate, it is most likely that security will be the one that change.”

Coordinated by the Executive Secretary of the State Public Security System, the second Course for Strengthening the Leadership of Women in Security Institutions is held, here 53 female police officers from 15 municipalities, plus members of the State Public Security Forces and the State Attorney General’s Office participate in the course.

“This course is unique in its kind, in Mexico and in Latin America, it will consist of 7 sessions and will be presented following the methodology of the Harvard University Business School in the United States and the European Institute of Business Administration INSEAD in France, and it was born from the opportunity I had”, said Secretary Sophia Huett, “to participate as a fellow in the International Women’s Forum (IWF–International Women’s Forum) which brings together women from all over the world to train them in leadership issues.

A year ago, with the support of the University of Guanajuato and the State Governor, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, the Executive Secretary of the State Security System, began with the first course “as a personal debt from what I was able to learn, because this must be the mentality, when a woman occupies a command position it is not a competition for others, she should be a natural ally and a promoter of new leaders.”

Participating in this second course were women security agents from security institutions in the municipalities of:

  • Dolores Hidalgo, Irapuato, Guanajuato, San Francisco del Rincon, Celaya, Penjamo, Silao, San Jose Iturbide, Leon, Apaseo el Alto, Apaseo el Grande, Salvatierra, Salamanca, San Miguel de Allende, Purisima del Rincon, and members of the State Attorney General’s Office and the General Coordination of Forces of the State of Guanajuato

Lizeth Dayana Orta Salazar, a member of the Public Security Directorate of Apaseo el Alto, said that having been part of the first generation, “I want to tell the new group not to waste the opportunity, not to stop attending and speaking with your leaders to make the most of the new challenge you  face in your lives professionally and personally”.
