With more than 22 million pesos in revenue from reservations and more than 28,600 visitors to Guanajuato vineyards and wineries, the wine sector is gaining strength in the State.
The VID Project promoted by the Governor of Guanajuato Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, is oriented towards development and consolidation of this sector with strategies such as training, business support, organization of events, acceleration of wineries, harvests, development of tourism products, etc.
The head of the Secretary of Sustainable Economic Development -SDES-, Ramon Alfaro Gomez highlighted the importance of consolidating the ‘Independence Valley’ wine route as a comprehensive strategy in coordination with the key actors in the sector.
One of the most important measures in this matter is the strengthening of skills through training programs; in the advancement of the present state administration, more than 2,500 people have been trained in disciplines such as wine service, oenology, sommeliers, among others.
The harvests are one of the most successful strategies, since they have brought together more than 13 thousand people, representing an economic benefit of 25.8 million pesos from 2018 to date.
In Guanajuato there are currently 59 vineyards distributed in 12 municipalities that cover more than 500 hectares; According to the latest information available, they produced more than 1.5 million bottles, which have won more than 300 medals at the national and international level.
Guanajuato, training agreements have also been established with Mendoza, Argentina, Valle de Guadalupe and Spain, cementing international bridges for the flourishing of competitive professionals.
The initiative also impacts local companies by providing support to a hundred companies in process that have renewed their commitment to continue holding events; as of December of last year, 85 of them were carried out with the attendance of more than 37 thousand people.
Currently, Guanajuato holds the title of being the second state in Mexico to host a Wine Museum, located in Dolores Hidalgo Cradle of National Independence.
Alfaro Gomez said that these actions represent a comprehensive strategy to diversify the regional economy, generate employment and promote sustainable development. The State Government, through the SDES, works to ensure that this activity continues to grow.
