Even with the negative situation in the world because of the Covid 19 crisis, the exports from Guanajuato are booming

During the first four months of 2020, the foreign trade in Guanajuato reached 6,264 million dollars, and the main sectors are agro-industry and vehicles, these two sectors concentrate 57% of the total exports in the State.
Luis Ernesto Rojas Avila, General Director of Cofoce, noted the importance of promoting the companies from Guanajuato, so that they go on opening new roads to local products in the world, especially to countries like the United States, where they have stopped buying in other countries.
Helping with exports
“I have no doubt that today we must focus our efforts to facilitate the exports by thousands of MiPymes, that can bring their products through the new channels and new technologies, to a consumer who is today looking for alternative products and supplies that they are not buying from Asia anymore, then it is there where we have a very important opportunity”, said Rojas Avila.
920 companies from Guanajuato are exporters
Numbers of Cofoce with information by the General Administration of Customs from the SAT reveal that during the first 4 months of 2020 there were:
- – $6,264 million dollars in exports from Guanajuato
- – 920 companies are exporting
- – 150,097 jobs are generated
- The exporting companies by size:
- – 75% (141) of exporters are big companies
- – 12% (275) are mid size
- – 7% (327) are small
- – 6% (177) are micro
In this period the products from Guanajuato reached 118 countries.
The most important are:
- – USA (5,239 million dollars)
- – Canada (277MD)
- – Colombia (125MD)
- – Germany (65MD)
- – China (49MD)
The Top 6 Municipalities that export their products are:
– Silao (3,195 million dollars)
– Salamanca (825MD)
– Celaya (533MD)
– Irapuato (491MD)
– Villagran (287MD)

A great opportunity
Rojas Avila noted that the coming into effect of the USMCA (TMEC) is a great opportunity to keep promoting the foreign trade.
“I believe that exports are a great means to attract fresh resources to Mexico, and to generate economic development, and mainly to be able to generate and multiply the jobs and create new companies. We are only a few days from the USMCA to becoming a reality in the most dynamic and wealthy region in the whole world which is North America. With this treaty we will still be the main trade associate of the most powerful nation in the world and it will also help us seal alliances”, said Rojas Avila.
Agro-foods exports increase
The Agro-foods sector had good numbers in the first four months of 2020, from January to April of this year, exports in this sector reached $625 million dollars, while in the same period of 2019 they were for $524 million dollars.
In 2020, 142 companies from Guanajuato in 25 Municipalities sent their products to 58 destinations mainly to USA, Japan, Canada, Guatemala and The Netherlands.
The agriculture products that are most exported are:

- – Bell peppers (54MD)
- – Lettuce (44MD)
- – Fresh broccoli (39MD)
