In 2023 Guanajuato reports 80 confirmed cases of dengue type one, all patients have recovered satisfactorily.
The cases in Guanajuato:
- 53 of these cases are in Acámbaro
- 7 Celaya
- 7 Irapuato
- 1 Abasolo
- 1 San Francisco del Rincon
- 1 San Luis de la Paz
- 1 in Silao
- 8 in Victoria, these are cases imported from San Luis Potosí
- 1 in Salamanca
Of the 80 cases, only 21 are active without presenting complications, explained the Secretary of Health, Daniel Alberto Diaz Martinez.
The outbreak in Acambaro started because the population presented a problem of water shortage and the inhabitants began to store water in containers with no preventive measures, said Dr. Daniel Diaz.
“Let’s remember that the Aedes Aegypti mosquito breeds in containers with accumulated water around the home. They lay their eggs on the walls of containers with water, where they can survive for months”, said the Secretary.
The increase of cases in Guanajuato is also due to the fact that Guanajuato is geographically surrounded by states that register a high numbers of cases.
Throughout the country there is a proliferation of cases, including Guanajuato, but despite this, Guanajuato maintains a decreasing number of cases.
Dengue, as well as Zika and Chikungunya are viral diseases transmitted by the bite of a mosquito that previously bit a sick person.
Diaz Martinez said that these diseases are preventable if we avoid the reproduction of the fly with the following strategies:
- Wash, Cover, Flip and Throw
- It refers to washing containers that store water such as water tanks, sinks, cisterns or drinking fountains
- Cover any container that stores water
- Turn drums or pots that accumulate water
- Throw away bottles, tires, and cans that are no longer used
