The State Institute of Culture and the Mexican Postal Service witnessed at the Casa Diego Rivera Museum the cancellation of the postage stamp made for the 65th anniversary of the Frida Kahlo Museum, the Casa Azul, where the artist lived with the Guanajuatense muralist.
Juan Carlos Carrera Sanchez, Guanajuato postal manager of Correos de Mexico, commented that the cancellation was also made at the Frida Kahlo Museum, 200,000 stamps were printed that are distributed throughout Mexico, and this event is held in each Mexican State.
Arturo Rafael Segura, representative of the Guanajuato Philatelic Club, said that the stamp cancellation is done with commemorative stamps because in this case it refers to a very particular event that is the 65th anniversary of the venue, in addition to the fact that it will not be issued again. “That is why it is very important for us philatelists to be at these events.”
The cancellation consists of the use of a postmark that is not used in post offices, it has a special design that specifies where it is made and, in addition, the ink is different, because black ink is usually used, but in this case it was red.
“After canceling this stamp this postmark will be destroyed. You will have a memory of a historical event”, noted Arturo Rafael.
On behalf of Adriana Camarena de Obeso, director of the State Institute of Culture, the director of Museums, Arturo Lopez Rodriguez, thanked the institution for participating in this historic event that in some way is a brotherhood relationship with the museum located in Mexico City, who share the same work of promoting and disseminating art, particularly in both cases of the work of Diego Rivera and who in life was his life partner.
“For the Institute it is very gratifying to host this type of cultural promotion activities of philately. This postal piece could not have been in a better setting than in one of the most emblematic venues in Guanajuato, the Museo Casa Diego Rivera, which houses the work of Diego Rivera and photographs of Frida Kahlo”, said Lopez Rodriguez.
