Almost 50 years after his death, Jose Alfredo Jimenez is still “The King.” Dolores Hidalgo, Cradle of National Independence, celebrates the the 13th International Festival in honor to this great singer-songwriter from Dolores from November 18 to 21.
This year, the venues for the “Jose Alfredo Jimenez Festival” are the Jose Alfredo Jimenez House Museum, the Wine Museum, the Historic Center, the Jose Alfredo Tourist Parador, La Vida no Vale Nada Forum and the Garden of Composers.
The Festival was born to enhance the Serenade that, on the occasion of the death of the King, is celebrated year after year in his honor, informed in a press conference Francisco Javier Valverde Polin, director of Tourism Development; Adrian Hernandez Alejandri, mayor of Dolores Hidalgo CIN; Adolfo Campo, councilman of the Dolores Hidalgo CIN Tourism Commission; and Jose Guillermo Azanza Liera, director of the Jose Alfredo Jimenez House Museum.
Artists like Reyli Barba, Majo Aguilar and Mariachi Los Gavilanes, as well as the “Rondalla Santa Fe” of the University of Guanajuato and the Jazz Group “Cafe con Jose Alfredo”, present concerts, serenades and bohemia honoring the memory of the so-called “Poeta del Pueblo”, singer and composer of vernacular music.
The event features cultural participation from the municipalities of Salvatierra Pueblo Magico, Uriangato and Irapuato, they are present to be part of the greatest of tributes; and San Francisco del Rincon honors “El Rey” with a monumental tapestry called “Mi Pueblo Adorado”.
Visitors will also enjoy film screenings, workshops, a street catwalk inspired in Jose Alfredo Jimenez and many activities for the whole family: and a Gastro-Artisan Pavilion “Caminos de Guanajuato”, which has the participation of the Secretary of Sustainable Economic Development (SDES), municipality and artisans.
Tourists can also carry out tourist activities during their visit to the destination, such as walks, adventure activities, visits to museums.
