“Guanajuato has a promising future; we want to transcend in the world as a state that has the capacity to innovate, to create, to dream and to invest”, said the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.
The Governor was in this event that marked the celebration of the 10 years of the Pirelli Plant in Silao and 150 years globally and where they announced the expansion of the Silao plant, with an investment of 114 million euros, and the first stone was laid for the premises where Pirelli tires will be manufactured to serve the local and North American markets, and where a Research, Development, Innovation and Vocational Training Center will be built.
“Today Pirelli and Guanajuato are closer than ever: we are united by work and passion for innovation, vision of the future and commitment to build it”, said Rodriguez Vallejo.
“We have many things in common: we share a vision of the future and aspirations to reach the next level in our development,” said the Governor.
Pirelli is located in the Guanajuato Puerto Interior industrial park since 2012 to serve the local and North American markets with a workforce of 300 people and the production of 1.5 million tires; today it has around 2,800 employees and a production capacity of 7.2 million tires per year.
This production is focused on the high-value segment and high-performance and ultra-high-performance tires are produced for electric vehicles, SUVs and light trucks.
“Pirelli is currently one of the most innovative and technologically advanced companies in the world; it is the footprint of the founder who today, a century and a half later, continues to walk and make himself present throughout the planet. Congratulations on this anniversary to the great family of Pirelli collaborators”, said the Governor.
Construction of the new plant is planned over a two-year period and aims to increase production in Mexico from more than one million pieces to 8.5 million tires by 2025, when it is operational, and it will create 400 new jobs and an increase in the workforce to 3,200 collaborators.
“The constant investments confirm the strategic importance of this plant and ratify the trust that Pirelli has in Guanajuato; we appreciate this commitment that will strengthen our development and generate more jobs for Guanajuatense families,” added the State Executive.
The Executive Vice President and CEO of Pirelli Global, Marco Tronchetti Provera, via video call from Italy, expressed to the Governor of Guanajuato his gratitude and trust to continue in the Bajio.
“The Silao plant has made an important contribution to the success of Pirelli’s global strategy of becoming a leader in the high-value segment; I am happy to say that we have achieved our goals and that the factory and the people who work there have exceeded our expectations”, said Tronchetti.
“This plant is one of the most technologically advanced in the Group and will soon have a new Intelligence Center and as we have done for 10 years, we continue to firmly believe in Silao and its people,” said the Executive Vice President and CEO of Pirelli.
The culture of innovation
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pirelli Silao, Sergio Contreras, presented the book “Pirelli, the culture of innovation”, to commemorate the company’s 150 years of activity worldwide.
This book includes the stages of development of the Silao plant, its growth, its penetration in the territory and among local communities, and Pirelli’s contribution to the development of Guanajuato.
