Thanks to the continuous work of the Coordinator for the Promotion of Foreign Trade –COFOCE-, and the high level of competitiveness of the company CICABA -Central Industrializadora de Carnicos del Bajio-, a family business with more than 35 years of experience, located in Penjamo, the first export of processed pork products from Guanajuato to Canada was completed, promoting its Granjero Feliz brand internationally.
The Director of Institutional Relations, Diana Sanchez Larios, told us about this success story of the Guanajuato pig industry that strengthens commercial ties of Guanajuato with more countries in the world.
“CICABA begins with the processing of pork with more than 35 years of experience, it was started by my grandmother. We met COFOCE when we were invited to a trade mission to Japan where several clients introduced us and as a result of that our relationship had greta results, since they invited us to export. We started with Japan, we continued with Korea, the United States, Cuba and now Canada”, said the Director of Institutional Relations of Granjero Feliz.
The shipment of this first cargo is possible thanks to the export authorizations that the company has from the Mexican Government, particularly SENASICA, and is endorsed by the Federal Inspection Type Seal (TIF), An emblem that guarantees that the meat products are produced with the highest quality standards for the national and international market.
CICABA ranked seventh in 2021, as an exporter of pork to Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Cuba, Puerto Rico and the United States, mainly exporting primary cuts, specialized cuts, pressed pork rinds, carnitas, flank steaks, tampiquena meat, pastor meat and, recently, it has developed a line of high value-added foods aimed to the Japanese market.
“It is a pride for us that our meat is in these countries. The truth is that I am very excited that our meat reaches Canada and it is a more fulfilled goal for us”, said Diana Sanchez, from Granjero Feliz.
“I think that Guanajuato has a great advantage in having COFOCE, which are organizations whose main focus is that the company exports and they are very necessary because as businessmen we need to have that knowledge to open doors in the rest of the world”, said Mauricio Usabiaga Zavala, from Su Sazón.
“It was an excellent initiative by COFOCE and the Agrofood Cluster to attempt integration of these industries. It was very successful and very pleasant and even productive. On the same day, the suppliers already commented about work committees, we advanced a lot in the systems and automation part”, said Javier Perez Grovas, part of the Council of Unifoods.
