Wheat producers from the municipality of Acámbaro gave away 110 thousand acambaritas to 20 thousand people in the famous “Rain of Bread”, within the framework of the 12th. Baking Fair.
After 2 years of not holding the Baking Fair, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the locals celebrated this year, from July 9 to 11, this gastronomic, cultural and artistic event.
Juan José Álvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato, attended the celebration of the Rain of Bread that began in the Santo Ecce Homo Parish and went through the street of the City arriving at the Church of Virgen del Refugio, to celebrate a mass.
For more than 100 years ago, bakers have gathered on this pilgrimage to thank the Virgen del Refugio, Patron Saint of Acámbaro, for the favors they have received; and 50 years ago the tradition of the “rain of bread” was born, thanks to the fact that one day a baker loaded his oven (on this pilgrimage) and gave people 20 loaves as a way of also thanking them for their purchase.
- Since then, every year, Acambarense bakers multiply this gift to their customers.
