In the celebration of “World Tourism Day”, the Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato will hold cultural activities for the entire population and training sessions aimed at the tourism sector.
This year, World Tourism Day – Tuesday, September 27- aims to promote awareness among the population about the importance of tourism, highlighting its social, cultural, political and economic values.
To commemorate this day, SECTUR will carry out during this week, starting on Monday, September 26:
- “Rally of Sustainability for Companies”
- Trainings and workshops focused on Tourism Competitiveness
- Award for “Merit of Innovation and Tourism Competitiveness”
- Exhibition “Guanajuato in Congress”
In order to recognize the effort made by the agents involved in the chain of each of the destinations, SECTUR designed the “Merit for Tourism Innovation and Competitiveness” as the highest distinction that an actor can receive in Guanajuato.
SECTUR called on the sector to participate in the categories:
- Culture, Nature, Gastronomy, Sports, Wellness, Oenology, Spirits, MICE, Romance; and, now, it will deliver the “2022 Tourism Innovation and Competitiveness Merit Award”
From September 27 to 29, in the Senate of the Republic, Guanajuato -through IDEA, SDES and SECTUR- will carry out various activities so that all Mexicans and visitors learn about the traditions and culture, and the Guanajuato products.
Some activities are:
- Inauguration of an exhibition of rugs and carpets by the well-known rug makers from Uriangato
- Panel on the Valley of Mindfacture
- Alley visit of the Estudiantina of the University of Guanajuato
- Tasting of wines of Guanajuato
- Photographic exhibition of Guanajuato
- Exhibit an sale of products of the Brand Marca GTO

Tourism is one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world, it generates great economic activity and is responsible for 10% of the total Gross Domestic Product. It is estimated that it generates one in ten jobs (close to 300 million jobs).
