It is already 27 years since this Expo started as a “window to the future” for our agricultural producers, said the Governor of Guanajuato

The agro-food sector is a strength of the Guanajuato economy; it is the second most important cluster with a share of the State GDP of 17.5 percent.
“This primary sector employs more than 206 thousand people. 8 out of 100 jobs are in the countryside”, said the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, at the inauguration of the 2022 Agrifood Expo.
“It is an honor to welcome to Guanajuato visitors and exhibitors of the Expo Agroalimentaria, the biggest business platform for agro-industry in Mexico and in Latin America,” said the Governor.
Rodriguez Vallejo said that this exhibition had its first edition in 1996, it has been 27 years of functioning as a “window to the future” allowing our producers to be up to date in terms of technological development, ideas, visions and perspectives for our field.
“And today more than ever, this great Expo continues to be a fundamental protagonist in the development of Guanajuato, now also integrated into Mindfacture”, noted the Governor.
For example, said the Governor, on the subject of technology, last August 14 drones were delivered for crop spraying. It is cutting-edge technology for the most efficient use of fertilizers, insecticides and fungicides, which is benefiting more than 26 thousand producers, improving their competitiveness and their yields.
“In our Government we are betting on the countryside. My heart is in the field”, said the Governor.
Guanajuato is located in the 7th national place in value of agricultural production and in the 5th. national place in the value of the country’s livestock production.
Guanajuato is:
- First place, in the value of production of broccoli, grain barley, lettuce and carrot
- Second place in agave, garlic, alfalfa, strawberry, sorghum and wheat
- Third place in asparagus and onion
- Fourth in corn
- Fifth in cucumber
- Sixth in green chili
- Eighth in beans
The Governor said that Guanajuato went from fourth to first national place in food exports from 2019 to date.
In 2020, 1,866 million dollars of farm products were exported; which represents 13.5 percent more than in 2019.
“All these achievements demonstrate the strength of the Guanajuato countryside and of the women and men who work there”, he said.
The Agrofood Expo is an international agro-business platform, in a 62-hectare enclosure to expose its experimental field with high-tech greenhouses and demonstration plots as well as exhibition areas, making it a complete and unique event.
The Expo brings together potential international buyers, distributors, specialists, professionals from the sector, government authorities that allow the economic and professional development of the participants.
There is the Wine & Cheese Pavilion, a space where products from national companies present their flavor and quality. Table wines, tequilas, mezcal and cheeses of exquisite flavor and excellent quality available to everyone.
The Netherlands has its own space, and in the event was Wilfred Mohr, ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
