The Virtual University of the State of Guanajuato -UVEG- was awarded third place in the 2024 Transparency Innovation Contest, organized by the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data -INAI-.
This recognition highlights UVEG’s commitment to technological innovation and its application to improve citizen service and the education experience.
The competition, which aims to reward and disseminate the best technological tools implemented by obligated subjects at the Federal, State and Municipal levels, as well as by civil society organizations, individuals and academic institutions, highlighted the work of UVEG for its AI Chatbot, a virtual assistance solution that optimizes the experience of its students on the virtual campus.
“After the pandemic, virtual education increased. We were one of the universities that had been around for years offering education in a virtual form. There is a universe of more than 120,000 people interested, among students and users in Mexico and more than one hundred countries. All the more so, the demand of requests to access to information increased and there was not so much personnel. This technology allowed us to move forward. We had more than 300 requests a day, and from September 2023 to date, more than 81,000 queries have been made, which helped us reduce requests for access to information by more than 60%”, said the rector of UVEG, Ricardo Narvaez Martinez, who read a message of the Constitutional Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo.
The AI Chatbot, developed by the UVEG Information Technology Department, is a technological tool that allows students to quickly and effectively resolve queries related to the platform, academic processes, and technological guidance. Thanks to this innovation, students can obtain immediate answers to their queries, which significantly improves their education experience.
“The development of this tool involved the integration of advanced artificial intelligence, the same technology used by ChatGPT, with UVEG’s own knowledge base, ensuring that the chatbot could understand and process students’ queries, providing precise, clear and consistent answers,” explained Francisco Miguel Vargas Robles, responsible for the technological tool and Head of Web Development at UVEG.
The awards ceremony was held at an event in Mexico City, where the awards were presented in the education category.
