Guanajuato, through the Secretariat for Migrants and International Affairs –SMEI-, participated in the first session of the Advisory Council on Migration Policy headed by the Secretariat of the Interior.
Juan Heraández, head of the SMEI, said that the role Guanajuato had in this meeting was to share and propose alternatives that help formulate and direct migration policy, as well as human mobility in Mexico.
“As Secretary for Migrants and International Liaison of Guanajuato, I can tell you that thanks to the vision of Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, with this type of collaborative work is how we have been able to attend to the needs of migrants in a timely manner”, said Hernandez.
The Secretary noted the work carried out by the Secretary of Government, taking into account the opinion of the federal authorities with powers in the matter, the demands and positions of the Powers of the Union, the governments of the federal States, the municipalities and mayors.
In his capacity as National Coordinator of the Migrant Assistance Offices, CONOFAM, Hernandez said that Mexico and Guanajuato are a land of migrants and highlighted the pride that the opportunity to serve them represents.
He asked to remember that every day thousands of our countrymen leave their land, to undertake the most difficult of their decisions: abandon their home and look for a better life for their loved ones elsewhere.
“We are going to work as a team from the 32 States so that together we can achieve a better immigration policy in favor of Mexicans”, said the Secretary.
This dialogue and work table was attended by representatives of:
- Secretary of Government
- Secretary of Foreign Relations
- National Institute of Migration
- Undersecretary of Human Rights, Population and Migration
- Immigration Policy Unit, Registration and Identity of Persons
- Advisory Council for Migration Policy
