In the context of their anniversaries, the Conde Rul Museum and the Palace of Powers Museum celebrate their consolidation as fundamental spaces for the cultural life of the city of Guanajuato.

Incorporated in 2018 (March 23) and 2017 (March 8), respectively, into the infrastructure of the then State Institute of Culture —now the Secretary of Culture of Guanajuato—, both venues were created with the purpose of hosting permanent and temporary exhibitions of local, national and international artists, expanding opportunities for the artistic community and strengthening the cultural offer in Guanajuato.

Over the years, both museums have developed their own distinct identities. Initially, the Conde Rul Museum did not have its own collection; however, in 2024 it received more than 150 pieces from the Alar Collection of Chinese art, establishing itself as the first institution in Latin America dedicated specifically to the art of ancient China.

The Palace of the Powers Museum opened its doors in March 2017, following the relocation of the State Congress to its new headquarters. The museum’s name alludes to the fact that the building housed, at different times, the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of government.

As part of its eighth anniversary celebration, the Conde Rul Museum will offer a series of commemorative activities, including the family workshop “Creativity in Chinese,” aimed at children and adults, where they will discover the colors of Chinese porcelain through painting.

The Palace of Powers Museum joins the commemoration with the family workshop “From Heritage to Paper: Models of the Palace,” led by visual artist Doris Zendejas. The activity will invite families to create and decorate a model inspired in the architectural elements of the building, whose original design was by architect Louis Long.

Among the distinguishing features of this iconic building is the fact that it was one of the first buildings of the early 20th century to have electric lighting, a symbol of modernity and innovation at the time.

Both museums are open Tuesday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. General admission is 31 pesos; for seniors, students, and teachers, it is 16 pesos. Admission is free on Tuesdays.
