Recognized as one of the productive engines of the farmers and producers community in central Mexico, the sheep and goat sector was the focus of a meeting held by the Government of the People, through Financiera y Apoyos Tu Puedes Guanajuato.

Ivon Padilla Hernandez, head of the agency, said that this sector in particular promotes strategic productive activities for the regional economy, such as the raising of sheep and goats, a task that generates income, employment and sense of belonging in rural communities in Mexico.

“Livestock producers are a fundamental part of our State’s economy. Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo has asked us, through the Financial Institution, to inform them about the available credit options and to let them know that there is an institution ready to support them so that their projects can continue to move forward,” said Padilla.
“For the People’s Government, agriculture is a priority, not just rhetoric. Supporting producers means creating real, tangible conditions so they can continue producing, growing, and sustaining the regional economy. From Tu Puedes Guanajuato, we will back your work with financing and close support,” said Ivon.

During the meeting, nine credit options were presented, ranging from 10,000 to 3 million pesos, with interest rates from 6.75 to 13 percent. Particular emphasis was placed on the adjustments to the “Progresa” credit, which previously offered 500,000 pesos to be paid in six months and now, in 2026, the amount has been increased to one and a half million pesos to be paid in 12 months with an interest rate of 12 percent.
Ivon Padilla noted that all financing is aimed at starting projects, acquiring working capital, strengthening existing production units or expanding the capacity of those already participating in this economic chain, which supplies local and regional markets and has a direct impact on food production, trade and the family economy.

Padilla Hernandez said that listening to organizations in the primary sector allows for the identification of needs in order to build financial solutions that are in line with the dynamics of the producers and the challenges that this productive sector faces in all the variations.
“We are here today to train merchants, farmers, and all of them are the ones who benefit from this service provided by the Financial Institution,” said Luis Gerardo Aguirre Rodriguez, president of the Tecnoagro Network, who highlighted the importance of coordination between producers, technical networks and public institutions.
“There have been many supports, but these are the first of the best supports that there have been because the interest is very low and support is really needed,” said Benito Acosta Flores, vice president of the Regional Union of Sheep and Goat Farmers of the Central Region.

In the end, the representatives of the producers agreed that access to clear information and adequate financing schemes are key to maintain the activity, improve processes and give continuity to a work that sustains thousands of families in the region.
