Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo celebrated World Tourism Day with the modernization of La Libertad Boulevard San Miguel de Allende-Dolores Hidalgo, a project that will boost the region’s tourism and economic development.

“In Guanajuato, in this land, if there’s one thing that defines our people, it’s that spirit of freedom, that work committed to the future. Speaking of a project like La Libertad Boulevard is speaking of actions that will transform the present and future of our State,” said the Governor.

This strategic project modernizes the section of Federal Highway 51 that connects San Miguel de Allende, a World Heritage City, with the Pueblo Magico (Magic Town) of Dolores Hidalgo, the Cradle of National Independence. These two destinations are emblematic in the country due to their historical, cultural, and tourist attractions.

Liberty Boulevard represents an infrastructure designed to improve mobility, strengthen regional connectivity, drive economic and social development, and elevate the quality of life for thousands of people living in the communities, towns, and cities along its 30.7 kilometers.

“With this magnificent infrastructure project, I continue to reaffirm my commitment to do the right thing for Guanajuato, to continue working to guarantee the future our daughters and sons deserve. Because we want to connect municipality to municipality, point to point, so that development reaches everyone,” said the State Governor.

With a 100% State investment of more than 3.025 billion pesos, the project was executed by the Public Works Secretary of the People’s Government, transforming this road into a strategic axis for the development of the northeastern region of the State, despite being a federal section.
The work included widening the road to four lanes with concrete to ensure durability, a landscaped center median, side roads to facilitate local mobility, and a bike path to promote sustainable modes of travel.

In addition, complementary works were carried out, such as urban image improvements, signage, and street lighting. Six pedestrian crossings, five vehicle turnarounds, three interchanges, four bridges over streams, one railway overpass, and one overpass over the railway were built.
This project, in addition to connecting Dolores Hidalgo with San Miguel de Allende and its communities more quickly and safely, will contribute to their economic and social development and will also generate greater tourist mobility between both destinations.
