The Governor of Guanajuato acknowledged that it is teamwork that has allowed Leonese society to always stand up

“Today is a day that reminds us of the wonder of our history, of our firm roots that have made us strong over the years,” said the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, at the celebration for the 449th Anniversary of the Foundation of Leon.

Libia stressed that in Leon, teamwork has been recognized, where society and government, working together, have achieved results for the city of the future.

For the State Governor, being from Leon is a source of great pride, in addition to having the good fortune of being from a city known for the rhythm of “singing” when speaking. With the smell of leather and solidarity, the taste of ‘guacamaya’ and ‘cebadina’, but also, with a citizenship recognized for teamwork.

“In this land we play on and off the field, with that passion that characterizes us ‘the panza verde, but where we also risk everything for those we love,” said the Governor about her identity as a native of the shoe city.

The Governor acknowledged the strength of the people of Leon, who have faced droughts and floods at various times in their history and have always stood up.

“Today I want to invite you to remember what unites us, and to remain firmly convinced that the challenges of Leon and Guanajuato in the future will require us to be more united than ever,” said Libia.

This anniversary, the State Governor said, marks the path to the commemoration of the 450 years. For this reason, the Mayor of Leon, Alejandra Gutierrez, presented the Organizing Committee for the Commemoration of the 450th Anniversary of the Founding of Leon.

On stage at the Manuel Doblado Theatre, the City Chronicler, Luis Alegre, recounted the history of the shoemaking city, which dates back to 1576 when it was established as ‘Villa de Leon’ and the first City Council was elected.

Previously, the Governor of the People attended the Eucharistic Celebration at the Parish of the Tabernacle, where the parishioners thanked for the 449th Anniversary of the Founding of Leon and remembered Saint Sebastian as the Patron Saint of the City.
