In order to prevent fires in the winter season caused by waste, strategic alliances are generated at SMAOT with cement companies in the region for the removal of End-of-Life Tires –NFU-, for their use as sources of energy.
More than 120 tons of end-of-life tires were removed from the final disposal site in the municipality of Guanajuato and the temporary collection center in Silao.
In coordination with the company Cementos y Concretos Nacional SA de CV, the Ministry of the Environment and Territorial Planning –SMAOT-, they removed this waste for its co-processing.
As part of the principles of the circular economy, this waste is reincorporated into the production chain, as an energy input.
The tires are taken into the cement kiln for their final disposal, in such a way that new waste, ashes or emissions are not generated, due to emission controls and the high temperatures that allow for complete combustion.
The co-processing in cement kilns allows for the reduction of environmental pollution, reduction of greenhouse gases, contributing to waste management, avoid the deposit of waste in landfills, and allowing for the proper use of industrial waste.
In this way, the burning of this waste in final disposal sites is avoided, in addition to the spread of diseases such as dengue due to its accumulation.
An NFU takes up to approximately one thousand years to degrade under normal conditions, and for this reason the exposure of this waste on public roads or outside any TNU area (Used Tire Treatment) is seriously penalized.
It has been identified that there are companies or people that make the purchase of NFU, however they are not authorized or most of the companies are only authorized to carry out the final disposal stage, wasting their calorific value and potential for recovery; hence the importance of joining and accessing supplier standards that work under environmental regulations.
