During the rain season, residents of at least seven communities in Comonfort were cut off due to the rising river. That will no longer happen thanks to the construction of the San Pablo Vehicular Bridge.

“The bridge is a great benefit to us, especially to get to the highway, because sometimes we had emergencies, mainly health-related, and it was complicated because of the dirt road, the mud, and the rain,” said Maria Paz Lopez, who expressed her gratitude for this project, in which the Government of the People invested 35 million 803 thousand pesos.

“This project is a testament to the great commitment of our Governor, Libia Dennise, to promote the development of all municipalities,” said the State Secretary of Public Works, Juan Pablo Perez Beltran, during his visit to the bridge, with the Secretary of Government, Jorge Jimenez Lona, to officially open the bridge to the public.

This project benefits more than 3,500 residents of the communities of:

  • San Pablo, Morales, Rinconcillo de los Remedios, San Pedro, San Pedro Sur, Orduna de Arriba, and Nopalera

The bridge is 122.3 meters long and 7.75 meters wide. It consists of two sections with one lane of traffic in each direction, 3 meters long, and a 1-meter-wide sidewalk.

Work was done on the access and junction roads to the bridge. Horizontal and vertical signage, street lighting, and a drinking water pipeline were also installed.

“There were a lot of people who, at times, were swept away by the river; they couldn’t get to see their families,” said Fatima Gonzalez, who was very pleased with this project.

Josefina Garcia Galvan, Delegate of the San Pablo Community, said: “Well, it was very difficult to leave our community because there was no crossing. There was no way to get through, especially when the river was rising. It was impossible to go out to work. That’s why we are very grateful for this project; it benefits us in many ways.”
