Following instructions of the Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the Secretary of Government, Jorge Daniel Jimenez Lona, and the Secretary of Human Rights, Liz Alejandra Esparza Frausto, carried out a working tour in Los Angeles, for the benefit of the Guanajuatense community of California, who always have Guanajuato in their memory and in their heart.

During the meeting, the Secretary of Government, Jorge Daniel Jimenez Lona, and the Secretary of Human Rights, Liz Alejandra Esparza Frausto, learned firsthand about the problems of migrants, and offered the various services and support provided by the Government of Guanajuato.

In his message, the Secretary of Government noted that the Guanajuatense migrants are not alone, but that they can count on the Government of the People and the love of their families in our State, “From Guanajuato we come to tell you, on behalf of Governor Libia Dennise, that you have our full support to protect your rights, safeguard your dignity and promote the full development of all the people of Guanajuato in Mexico and in the world.”

The Secretary of Human Rights noted that the Government of the People is working on the Assisted Return Program for Migrants from Guanajuato, which was announced by the governor, and which includes three types of assistance:

  • The first, in the United States, through the four Liaison Offices of the Government of Guanajuato, located in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Antonio
  • The second, on the northern border of Mexico, through coordinated actions with the federal government and the border State governments
  • The third, in Guanajuato, through programs that have an initial budget of twenty-five million pesos and that can be expanded depending on demand

Both officials met with migrant leaders to strengthen ties of cooperation and undertake joint actions to benefit the people of Guanajuato who live in that area, as well as their families who live in Guanajuato.

They also participated in the inauguration of the Consulate on Wheels in Los Angeles, a program that aims to bring passport, registration and INE credential processing closer to the Mexican community living in the United States.

The Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, noted the visit of the officials of the People’s Government, emphasizing that the “Guanajuato Liaison Offices are our main headquarters for this service and one of our most important partners. In fact, we offer services at the Guanajuato Liaison Office for practically four months a year, and we are very grateful because our users appreciate it and stay close, not only to us, but also to their State.”

Through this Consulate on Wheels, 4,000 appointments will be offered in the next four weeks in order to serve the Mexicans who live around this city.

Jimenez Lona and Esparza Frausto coordinated actions of the Government of the State of Guanajuato, through its Liaison Office in Los Angeles, and the Federal Government to provide comprehensive assistance in the event of possible deportations of migrants to Mexico.

There are some 150,000 Guanajuatenses living in the Los Angeles area in California.
