The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, led the reopening ceremony of the Aquatic Center of the Macro Sports Center in Guanajuato, benefiting more than 72,000 people.

The State Governor said that today is a great day, one that fills girls, boys, and young people who already want to begin swimming and diving.

And what better reopening could there be than with great champions, high-performance athletes, and outstanding swimming talents from Guanajuato, such as Celia Pulido and Liliana Ibanez; in swimming for people with disabilities, Steven Martinez Arellano; and in para-swimming, Juan Jose Gutierrez, Jesus Alberto Gutierrez, Raul Gutierrez, Angel de Jesus Camacho, and Jesus Hernandez, the Governor emphasized.

Today, the doors of a space that has been transformed into a true modern gem, safe and accessible for all ages, reopens, said Libia Dennise.

In 2022, this center was closed to carry out a comprehensive intervention to meet the needs of our deserving sports community. This includes the rehabilitation of the Olympic-sized pool and diving pit, that now have state-of-the-art technology to welcome talented athletes, students, and anyone interested in sports. Nearly 80 million pesos were invested in this project.

Libia Dennise emphasized that today, this completely renovated space fosters equality, coexistence, and the well-being of all our people, regardless of age, ability, or condition.

“Families will come here to continue building the best version of themselves, and surely the sport of swimming and diving will continue to bring glory to our beloved Guanajuato,” said the Governor, who at the end of her message interacted with Mrs. Esperanza Tierrafria, who is 75 years old and has been a user of this Aquatic Center since 2008.

“The opening of this place is wonderful because it’s my life. I’ve been training for 17 years, I didn’t know how to swim… and now, I’ve even competed in different places, winning 225 medals, and I can now swim in open waters,” said Esperanza.
