SSG reports the timely attention of 408 cases of tuberculosis with medical treatment

Guanajuato/Gto News

The Guanajuato Health Secretary commemorated the World Tuberculosis Day 2024, providing care to 408 patients with their diagnosis during the year 2023.

This year the staff works with the motto “In 2024, let us return to the path towards the elimination of Tuberculosis”, since this is an infectious-contagious disease, caused by a group of bacteria from the order of Actinomycetales of the mycobacteriacea family.

Ligia Arce Padilla, Secretary of Health, reported that this is a systemic disease that mainly affects the respiratory system, but can develop in any organ of the body.

The most frequent mechanism of transmission is through the air (when coughing or sneezing) through droplets emitted by a sick person with tuberculosis to another healthy person exposed because she is nearby and who is susceptible to getting sick.

Among the risk factors are:

  • HIV, malnutrition, diabetes mellitus, people on steroid treatment, all of them situations that alter the immune system

In Mexico, more than 25,256 new cases of tuberculosis are reported per year in all its forms.

Arce Padilla explained that Guanajuato has a low incidence status compared to the North and South of Mexico.

In the period January-December 2023, there was an incidence of 6.2 percent, which is below the national average of 19.2 percent and 408 cases of tuberculosis in all its forms were diagnosed.

All cases have received timely treatment, achieving full recovery in the majority of cases.

The tuberculosis program carries out the study of contacts of diagnosed patients, achieving 97 percent of the study of contacts registered in 2023, which correspond to 2,134 contacts.
