“The commemoration of International Childhood Cancer Day should also be a call to continue joining the task of prevention. And this is a shared task of society and government”, said Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.
The Governor noted that in Guanajuato, there are more and more girls, boys and adolescents who “ring the bell of life” as a sign that they have emerged victorious from the disease.
“It is an honor to share this very special momento of the International Childhood Cancer Day, with the girls, boys and adolescents under some treatment who are with us today. Likewise, to the mothers and fathers of their families who participate in this important commemoration,” said the Governor.
Rodriguez Vallejo said that in Guanajuato there are two certified medical units for the care of children with cancer who are under 18 years old:
- The General Hospital of Leon
- The General Hospital of Celaya
Both centers have highly qualified professional health staff and sufficient medications to guarantee comprehensive and multidisciplinary care.
“The Gto Health System has the State Public Health Laboratory, which has been of great support in offering timely diagnose. And timely diagnose, as you know, is very important when it comes to saving the lives of our infants and adolescents”, said the Governor.
The Governor added that there is also a federal referral hospital, such as the Bajio High Specialty Regional Hospital, which has been a great support in patient care.
“This is why in Guanajuato, children and adolescents with cancer have good care, they have their medications, continuity, tranquility and certainty to face this disease”, said the Governor.
The Governor informed that in Guanajuato the survival of patients in the two accredited care hospitals is 75 percent, 5 years after being diagnosed; above the national average of 56.5 percent.
The event was held in the IREKUA Park, and the Secretary of Health, Daniel Alberto Diaz Martinez pointed out that in Guanajuato work is being done to guarantee the health of children and adolescents.
