The Swiss plastics company Utz invests 16.8 million dollars in its plant in San Miguel de Allende for the production of sustainable plastic packaging.
With this investment San Miguel de Allende is consolidated as an industrial destination by completing 20 investment projects for an amount over 635 million dollars and the creation of more than 6 thousand direct jobs.
Governor of Guanajuato Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, maintains an economic policy based on human capital, technology, and innovation, to attract companies that open new job opportunities for Guanajuatenses.
The head of the Secretary of Sustainable Economic Development (SDES), Ramon Alfaro Gomez, reflected on the economic evolution of Guanajuato in the last 30 years, going from an agricultural state that exported 300 million dollars a year to 27 billion dollars today.
“Guanajuato has investment from 23 countries that have trusted Guanajuato and its continuity in public policies. We see the future of Guanajuato towards different opportunities, we are sure that Utz will also be a great component of that vision of future that we want for the people of Guanajuato”, said Alfaro Gomez.
This new company will focus on the production of sustainable and reusable logistics packaging, with a deep commitment to caring for the environment to supply different sectors with a presence in Guanajuato.
Its packaging is used in different industries with an important presence in Guanajuato, such as:
- Automotive-auto parts, chemical, agro-food, textile-clothing, electronics, logistics, storage and distribution
Its most important clients include:
- BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Continental, Hella, Bosch, Borse, among other
The president of the Utz Group, Bernhard Merki, said that the construction of the plant in San Miguel de Allende will allow them to continue participating in the dynamism of Guanajuato to attract our clients and position ourselves as leaders in the North American market, abiding to the highest quality standards, innovative processes and automation.
On the other hand, the representative of the Swiss embassy in Mexico, Yves Reymond, noted the impact of diversifying and complementing the ecosystem of the industry’s value chain beyond investment and employment figures “to make finished products and help other companies to make finished products”.
Utz has a great commitment to the environment, since its goal for 2030 is to have only processes that are made with renewable energies to reduce its carbon footprint.
Finally, the general manager of Utz Mexico, Armando Robles Marin, assured that the installation of the company in Guanajuato was the right decision, at the right time, in the right place.
