For the third consecutive year, the State of Guanajuato will once again host the “Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit”, an event that year after year impacts thousands of people in knowledge, relationships, and collaboration for the development of sustainable tourism.
This year, the most important Sustainable and Social Tourism Summit in Ibero-America was held at Poliforum Leon, from August 30 to September 2, and brought together -with the motto “Integration for collaboration”, professionals, academics, the sector tourism and private initiative from 15 countries, 22 states of the Mexican Republic and 14 municipalities of Guanajuato.
Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism, closed this event accompanied by Fernando Madri Bellot, President of the SUMMIT Organizing Committee; Glenn Mandzuik, Executive Director of the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance; Dirk Glaesser, UNWTO Director of Sustainable Tourism Development; and Maria Isabel Ortiz Mantilla, Secretary of the Environment and Territorial Planning.
“This seventh edition of the Summit was a breeding ground. Last year and this 2023, that we have been fortunate to have this event in Leon, it has allowed us to obtain knowledge, it gives us the possibility of relating and it gives us the integration for collaboration and, in this collaboration, Guanajuato continues to be very committed to the SUMIIT; Therefore, from July 3 to 5, 2024, we all will continue working hand in hand to have a better world”, announced Alvarez Brunel.
“It fills us with great enthusiasm that you have accompanied us and give us, with your presence, this message of commitment. I am sure that the topics that you heard about awareness, mitigation, compensation, and regeneration, will be put into practice”, said the Secretary of Tourism.
Since last year, the sustainability strategy that the Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato has implemented in the tourist events that take place in Guanajuato has minimized the negative impacts on the destinations.
In this Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit -event that received the Compensation Certificate- the committee of the “Guanajuato Sustainable Tourism Distinction”, made up of actors from the State Tourism Sector, calculated the Carbon Footprint at 82.15 tons of emissions; and the amount of 8 thousand 041 pesos was collected at the Reforestamos Mexico stand, located at the Expo Summit, the amount will be delivered to the Emblema Project.
