The Government of Guanajuato, through Paulo Banuelos Rosales, Secretary of Agro-Food and Rural Development, supported agricultural producers of the South of Guanajuato in addressing their demands to the Federal Electricity Commission, following the strategy of Governor Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, not to abandon the Guanajuato countryside.
Thanks to this intervention, the producers got:
- 15 day extension to pay their electricity debts
- More time to complete and get their documents in order
- A reduction in the payment they must make
Paulo Banuelos Rosales, secretary of the SDAyR, went to the CFE headquarters in Salvatierra, where more than 60 producers from the South of Guanajuato arrived, led by Erasto Patino Soto, state leader of the National Council of Societies and Unions with Farmers and Settlers -CONSUCC-.
“How can we not help them if it is the sector that feeds all the people; we would be ungrateful if, in addition to what they have to go through with the bad weather and market changes, we still burden them with these issues that also do not depend on them, but are errors in the public systems that exist right now,” said the Secretary.
Erasto Patino explained that their dissatisfaction resulted from the fact that the most recent electricity bills they received tripled, so they report charges of between 50 and 95 thousand pesos for this service. Faced with the refusal to pay that amount, CFE warned that the electric power would be cut, so that their wells would not be able to operate and, therefore, it would be impossible for them to produce.
The increase in charges, Patino Soto commented, is due to the fact that the energy quota provided by CFE was suspended, because the producers do not have any documentation provided by the SAT, which did not give appointments during the pandemic; and the Conagua, whose system has been hacked since April 20 and cannot serve them at the moment.
Paulo Banuelos Rosales called on the CFE to consider the producers, because by cutting off their power service they would be doing irreversible damage to the production and economy of a sector that is already badly hit.
Pedro David Rodriguez Dorantes, superintendent of CFE’s Zona Salvatierra, announced that they would be given a 15-day extension to pay their debts according to what they were charged when they had the energy quota; as well as to complete and get their documents in order to process the fee again.
