SSG slowed maternal mortality by over 50%

The Guanajuato Health Secretary reports a significant reduction in maternal mortality from 2020 to date.

While in 2020 Guanajuato ended with 37 deaths, this trend went down to a 57.7% reduction in cases.

Health Secretary Gabriel Cortes Alcala reported that maternal-fetal health is a key indicator of human development and the performance of health systems, reflecting social equity, accessibility, and quality of care.

Therefore, the strategic priority is to ensure a safe pregnancy, delivery and postpartum period, as well as a healthy start to life.

Maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity are largely preventable, with each death representing a family tragedy and a structural public health problem.

In Guanajuato, the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) is 16.7 cases per 100,000 live births, representing a decrease in deaths of 57.7 percent compared to 2020.

This reduction slowed down in the last two years thanks to the Maternal and Perinatal Health Program, which has an objective to provide information and carry out necessary actions to promote a healthy pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period or one in optimal conditions.

In addition to preventing, detecting and/or addressing complications in a timely manner; as well as avoiding direct morbidity or sequelae and preventing maternal death in Guanajuato, we promote the information and actions necessary to encourage a healthy pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum period, or one in optimal conditions.
