The Secretary of Migrants and International Liaison -SMEI- approached the group of migrants in transit, who were attacked by federal authorities in the municipality of Silao on the night of last August 12 in the vicinity of Guanajuato Puerto Interior.

Susana Guerra Vallejo, head of the SMEI, said that personnel from the agency she directs located and spoke with the victims who are currently sheltered and receiving care from the “Friends of the Train Association” in Irapuato, to offer assistance and the support of the State Government.

“This is a group of migrants made up of approximately 83 people from Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. We offered them and made available to them medical care through the State Public Health Secretary, psychological care through the State DIF System, as well as food supplies, water, blankets and mats”.

The Secretary said that during this intervention, the migrants requested support to recover their documents and personal belongings that were withheld from them as they were investigated with the aforementioned authorities, for which the Secretary will support and will negotiate with the corresponding management and will do investigation with the necessary instances.

Guerra said that the care provided to migrants in transit is carried out jointly with different shelters and associations such as “Friends of the Train”, also, the SMEI has an inter-institutional network to offer comprehensive care to those who cross through our territory.

“The instruction we have received from Governor Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo is to always ensure the rights of every person who is in our territory, regardless of their place of destination or residence”, said Guerra.

Guerra Vallejo said that the joint work with the different levels of the federal, state and municipal governments continues, as well as with civil associations, to serve the groups of migrants who transit through Guanajuato so that their passage in our State is peaceful and safe.
