Personnel of the State DIF has measured the weight and height of more than 139,000 public school students

With the implementation of the Super Health League strategy, the Government of Guanajuato managed, in a first stage, to evaluate the weight and height of more than 139,485 girls and boys in 637 public schools, as part of a comprehensive action to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent chronic diseases.
Under the vision of Juan Carlos Montesinos, president of the Advisory Council of the State DIF System, the strategy seeks to prevent childhood overweight and obesity while promoting the adoption of healthy habits among Guanajuatense families.
The Director General of the State DIF System of Guanajuato, Jose Alfonso Borja Pimentel, explained that this initiative is part of the People’s Government’s actions and is being promoted transversally through the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato (SEG), the Secretary of Health (SSG), the State DIF System, and Federal Authorities.
“The Health Super League represents a coordinated effort involving the entire educational community, authorities, and families. It allows us to impact children from childhood to build a healthier future for our population,” said Montesinos.
The municipalities that have been served as part of the strategy are:
- Abasolo, Acambaro, Apaseo el Grande, Celaya, Cortazar, Dolores Hidalgo CIN, Guanajuato, Irapuato, Jaral del Progreso, Leon, Moroleon, Salamanca, Salvatierra, San Francisco del Rincon, San Jose Iturbide, San Luis de la Paz, San Miguel de Allende, Silao de la Victoria, Valle de Santiago, Villagran
Lines of action of the Health Super League strategy:
- Community projects: teacher-led education activities to promote self-care and health among students
- Talks to parents: informational sessions to guide families on healthy lifestyles
- School Health Days: Medical assessments of weight, height, visual acuity, oral health, and guidance on comprehensive well-being for primary school students
- Junk food-free schools: Since March 29, a ban on the sale of ultra-processed products on school campuses has been in place
“We are making nutritional guidance available to schools, where we have a team of nutritionists giving talks to facilitate the process of avoiding the consumption of non-nutritious foods,” said Montesinos.
Borja Pimentel explained that the first stage of the Health Super League strategy was implemented until the end of this school year and will continue through March 2026, with the goal of reaching more than 202,591 students and visiting all 730 public schools.
