SECTURI restores emblematic temples in Guanajuato

7 buildings have been restored as part of the Comprehensive Program for the Dignification of Emblematic Buildings

The priority was in preserving symbolic elements that reinforce the identity and cultural heritage of Guanajuato

Seven colonial temples in Guanajuato that promote tourism due to their historical record were restored by the Secretary of Tourism and Identity -SECTURI- of the Government of the State of Guanajuato through the Comprehensive Program for the Dignification of Emblematic Buildings.

These seven temples are located in municipalities such as:

• León, Guanajuato City, Ocampo, San Luis de la Paz and San Francisco del Rincón

The temples are considered references of the historical and cultural memory of Guanajuato, as well as bastions of religious tourism that is promoted through the New Beginning of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo.

These restorations were carried out in the temples:

• San Francisco, San Javier and the Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Bethlehem) in Guanajuato City
• Metropolitan Basilica of the Most Holy Mother of Light, in Leon
• Temple of Our Lady of the Conception, in San Cristobal, San Francisco del Rincon
• Temple of San Luisito Rey, in San Luis de La Paz
• Parish of San Juan Bautista, in Ocampo

The work carried out ranged from the restoration of facades, towers, domes and vaults to the reintegration of plastering, application of paint and structural consolidation.

The SECTURI Project Development Department led this initiative, highlighting the importance of managing and preserving the symbolic elements that frame the legacy of past generations and project a future with cultural roots for the people of Guanajuato.

These efforts respond to the state’s commitment to preserve cultural heritage as a driving force for tourism and social development, strengthening the historical identity of Guanajuato.
