The Ministry of Tourism shares in Huangshan, China, the experience of working with a Tourism Observatory that positioned Guanajuato as a leader in the generation and use of data from the tourism sector at a national and international level.
Currently, Guanajuato is a driving force in the generation of tourism statistical information and in the development of Tourism Observatories, recognition given to it by the UN Tourism and which has allowed it to be a reference in Latam.
Representing Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato, Miriam Cecilia Adame Alcaraz, Head of the General Directorate of Tourism Intelligence, participates in the “2024 Training for Observatories in China” with the theme “Sustainable Development for Rural Tourism and Governance”, which ends on June 1.
In this ninth edition, the Monitoring Coordination of China’s Sustainable Tourism Observatories, in collaboration with the Directorate of Sustainable and Resilient Development of the UN Tourism, invited SECTUR to represent Guanajuato, the only State of Mexico that was part of this event-.
The success story of the OTEG was presented as a consultative organization and working hand in hand with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), private initiative, academia and State Government organizations to give greater validity and richness to the activity. tourism of the entity.
In this premiere, Miriam Adame presented Guanajuato to representatives of Huangshan Mountain Tourist Observatories, Xidi and the Hongcun Observatory, to mention a few, as a leading destination in the generation of indicators of tourist activity, in measuring the visitor satisfaction, and the benefits of generating this type of indicators for the generation of public strategies and policies, to mention some indicators.
China was the country with which UN Tourism designed the Tourism Observatory methodology, developing the first 6 Observatories of the Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories -INSTO- and Mexico. Guanajuato was 7th. Observatory of this INSTO Network and, with it, the first in Mexico and Latin America, the first in Spanish and with its own methodology.
With this participation, Guanajuato strengthens linkage actions with international organizations that give validity to the information and help position the destination as a leading option in the generation and use of data in the tourism sector at a national and international level.
The State also complies with the Guanajuato State Tourism Program, contributing to the strategy of “Development of Innovation and Tourism Intelligence”, objectives:
- Develop innovation projects for the State’s tourism sector
- Develop tourism intelligence for this sector of Guanajuatog
