The Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, led the opening to road traffic of the modernization works of the Malecon del Rio in its first stage, in the section from Vicente Valtierra to 5 de Mayo.
The investment was for 62 million pesos of municipal resources and the works consisted of expanding the lower lanes in the western section, that is, in the direction from North to South.
“This section from Vicente Valtierra to 5 de Mayo is being opened to traffic ahead of time, with the purpose of beginning to alleviate the traffic of some 75,000 drivers a day and the truth is that it is very important for us to announce today this second and third stage with an amount of 119.5 million pesos for a length of 1,836 meters, on April 5th the expansion work of the Malecon begins”, said the Governor.
The works of this first stage began on September 7, 2022 and although the duration of the work was 8 months to conclude in April 2023, it was decided to open the road a month before, so that the city has an alternate route as SAPAL is starting work on Adolfo Lopez Mateos boulevard.
Minimal actions such as the urban image, garrisons, public lighting and signage will continue in process, for which reason one lane in the upper part will remain closed and will be fully completed by the end of April.
The State Government is committed to carrying out the second and third stages of modernization of the Malecon del Rio, corresponding to the stretch from Insurgentes Boulevard to Juan Jose Torres Landa Boulevard.
119.8 million pesos will be invested in the works that will consist of the rehabilitation of the pavement, the expansion of the lower body of the Malecon, and the adaptation of a lane for joining the upper body in three sections.
It will include storm drainage, lighting, rehabilitation of potable water lines, sanitary drainage, relocation of electrical installations and traffic lights.
It is estimated that the work will begin at the end of April and by the time these stages (2nd and 3rd) are completed, it is projected that travel times for more than 75,000 citizens who circulate through the area daily will be reduced by up to 40 percent.
