Guanajuato/Gto News

Given the importance that migrants have for Guanajuato and in response to the uncertainty caused by the anti-immigrant policies of the United States government, by instructions of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the Government of the People continues to strengthen its work with migrants and municipalities, because Guanajuato is a land of origin and hope for thousands of families who are supported thanks to the work of those who migrated.

Through the Secretary of Human Rights (SDH), the “Support Without Borders” program combines resources with migrants through their remittances and municipal governments to carry out basic infrastructure projects in their communities of origin, such as parks, streets, and streetlights, among other, which help improve the quality of life for their families. Remittances are proof of the effort and love of the people of Guanajuato who continue to build their homeland, even when far from home.

Under this program, 15 projects were completed in 2024 with combined resources from migrants, municipalities, and the State Government, totaling more than 26 million pesos; and in 2025, an initial 5 million pesos has been allocated for seven projects.

According to the Bank of Mexico report, in the first quarter of 2025, $1.218 billion in remittances arrived in Guanajuato, an increase compared to the same period reported in the previous two years:

  • In the first quarter of 2024, $1.176 billion were received
  • In the same period of 2023, $1.173 billion were registered

The report highlights that the municipalities in the State that received the most remittances in the first quarter of 2025 are:

  • Leon, 135.4 mdd
  • San Luis de la Paz, 119.2 mdd
  • Irapuato, 67.1 mdd
  • Dolores Hidalgo, 65.2 mdd
  • Celaya, 57.2 mdd
  • Valle de Santiago, 54.8 mdd

Since the change of government in the United States, the SDH launched the Assisted Return Plan called “MigranTequiero,” which has served 481 people, 237 of these people are Guanajuatense migrants assisted through the Liaison Offices located in the United States due to possible deportations, and 244 are migrants returned to Guanajuato.

Governor Libia Dennise delivered the first 97 grants under this plan to deportees totaling $1,530,537.96. These grants range from productive business start-up projects and processes.
