Purisima del Rincon footwear companies take on Central America in trade push organized by COFOCE

Purisima del Rincon/Gto News

Two local footwear companies from Purisima del Rincon have successfully completed a trade mission to Central America, aiming to forge new export ties in Guatemala and El Salvador.

The initiative stemmed from a strategic agreement signed this year between the Government of Purisima del Rincon and COFOCE (Coordinator for the Promotion of Foreign Trade) of the State of Guanajuato.

The collaboration provided essential support for the two companies to travel and present their products directly to key regional distributors.

Tenis Makkena and Calzado PMA JJDR represented Purisima del Rincon, showcasing a diverse range that included athletic shoes, industrial safety boots, and casual footwear.

“It was through COFOCE that we managed to secure appointments with major distributors in these Central American nations, along with organizing a Showroom in Guatemala to substantially boost our sales prospecting,” said Oscar Munoz Ramirez, Director of Economic Development.

The mission proved highly productive, with Makkena and PMA JJDR successfully displaying their models to 25 potential distributors. This group notably included ADOC, recognized as the largest footwear manufacturer and distributor in all of Central America.

Initial feedback was positive, with distributors expressing keen interest in the Purisima del Rincon-made footwear and the quality of its workmanship, creating a clear path for potential future agreements.

The push to expand exports is strategically aligned with the economic profile of Purisima del Rincon. According to data from INEGI (Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography), the manufacturing industry stands as the municipality’s top generator of gross domestic product (GDP), followed by the services and primary sectors.

Furthermore, COFOCE projects robust figures for the end of 2024, estimating total exports from the area at $45 million dollars.

The Fashion sector is a major driver of this growth; its key subsectors, including leather and synthetic hides, hats, leather goods and clothing accessories, and footwear, account for four of the top five export categories, totaling an estimated $35 million dollars.
