Purísima del Rincon’s vibrant presence at the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) turned heads this year. Invited by the Guanajuato State Secretary of Tourism and Identity, the municipality took center stage as part of a strategic push to showcase the State’s premier destinations.
Taking advantage of Madrid being the global headquarters for UN Tourism, Mayor Roberto Garcia Urbano and Tourism Director Roberto Camargo held a pivotal meeting with international officials right at the heart of the Guanajuato pavilion.
A celebration of sustainability and community
UN Tourism representatives praised Purisima del Rincon’s impressive strides in strategic planning and sustainability. They particularly highlighted the success of Jalpa de Canovas, already a designated Pueblo Magico, which continues to shine as a “Best Tourism Village.” The recognition also extended to the municipality’s broader tourism corridor and its surrounding rural communities.
During the meeting, local leaders shared the cross-cutting strategies driven by the Municipal Administration. They reaffirmed a festive and ambitious commitment to the 2026-2027 period, focusing on initiatives that will continue to elevate Purisima on the world stage.
Visionary planning for the future
The municipality’s success is no accident. Authorities pointed to the Tourism Development Plan finalized in late 2025 as their roadmap. This strategic tool ensures that tourism growth remains orderly, sustainable, and purposeful, strengthening both the local tourism corridor and the charm of Jalpa de Canovas.
UN Tourism identified three “secret ingredients” that set this destination apart:
- Deep community involvement in tourism events
- Environmental responsibility
- Culinary excellence, putting local gastronomy in the spotlight
International Partnerships
Officials also noted that the 2025 collaboration with the University of Lucerne was a landmark moment for the municipality’s international branding.
Furthermore, the strong ties established with UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico) were lauded as a prime example of how working with prestigious institutions can revitalize and empower local communities.
Jalpa de Canovas remains a crown jewel for Mexican tourism. Since receiving the Best Tourism Village award from UN Tourism in 2023, it has stood as one of the few destinations in the country with such a prestigious distinction, bolstering its global prestige.
The meeting concluded on a high note, with both parties pledging to deepen their collaboration through sustainable actions and social responsibility programs, ensuring that the future of tourism in Purisima del Rincon brings prosperity to all its citizens.
