Purisima del Rincon commemorated 423 years of history, a milestone reached on January 1st and celebrated this Saturday with a civic ceremony and parade.

Mayor Roberto Garcia Urbano, and Guanajuato’s Secretary of Government, Jorge Daniel Jimenez Lona, reaffirmed that the municipality’s evolution is more vibrant than ever.

“After more than four centuries, we stand as a testament to evolution and resilience, where the people of Purisima are the masters of their own future. Our infrastructure sustains both commerce and family life. We have built a heritage that is not the result of chance, but of high standards and shared labor,” García Urbano said.

Secretary Jorge Daniel Jimenez Lona noted the history of the city, founded on January 1, 1603, as San Juan del Bosque. In 1649, it became Nuestra Senora de la Limpia Concepcion, and since 1954, the municipality has been named Purisima de Bustos, while the entire territory is known as Purisima del Rincon.

“Our children inherit the pride and identity of Purisima; our young are realizing that it’s not just about where you come from, but the platform this municipality provides to leap into the world. There is history here, but above all, there is energy for what comes next, and our adults continue to build upon it,” said Roberto Garcia Urbano.

The Mayor concluded the civic ceremony by emphasizing the town’s unique spirit: “Many have tried to replicate our ways, but they can never replicate our essence. The historical foundation of Purisima is not found in blueprints; it is in our blood, it is our DNA, stronger than any technological QR code helping us multiply our possibilities.”

The celebration continued with a parade featuring local organizations and government agencies. Colorful floats depicted different eras and landmarks of Purisima, including La Alameda, El Senor de la Columna, and the Magic Town of Jalpa de Canovas.

The event featured a diverse lineup, including the Biciarte club, traditional dancers from Romita, bagpipers, the young and children’s queens, a batucada drum troupe, and the “Guardians of Memory”, honoring those who shaped the city’s history. The parade also featured Juan Antonio Munoz “El Tongo,” escaramuza charra riders, and more.

To close the festivities, the crowds were brought to their feet by the performances of Banda Imperio and Banda Maguey (the “Star of the Dances”), that had the people of Purisima singing and dancing long into the night.
