The agenda for Purisima del Rincon at the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) 2026 continues to yield impressive results.

Beyond meetings with global tour operators and international media, a significant diplomatic bridge was built: a bilateral working session between the mayors of Purisima del Rincon and Medellin, Spain.

Mayor of Purisima del Rincon, Roberto Garcia Urbano and Mayor Rafael Mateos Torres of Medellín, Spain, held an extensive two-hour dialogue, exchanging insights on tourism development, heritage conservation, and the shared history that unites both destinations.
A Partnership of “Magical” Proportions
The meeting’s outcome was a firm commitment to maintain permanent communication to explore a historic cooperation agreement between their respective “Magic Towns.”

Medellin, Spain, recently designated as a Magic Town of Spain and famed as the birthplace of Hernan Cortes, boasts an extraordinary historical legacy. Mayor of Medellín, Mateos Torres expressed his enthusiasm for “strengthening the bonds between brother towns in Mexico and Spain,” highlighting the immense potential for cultural and tourism growth between the two nations.

Mutual Admiration and Global Vision
During the session, the Spanish delegation was introduced to the “Guanajuato Magic Towns” portfolio. Mayor Mateos Torres showed particular excitement for Purisima del Rincon and its crown jewel, Jalpa de Canovas, UN Best Tourism Village, praising its unique cultural richness and vibrant traditions.
“We will maintain constant communication to follow up on this first step,” said Roberto Garcia Urbano, thanking his Spanish counterpart for the warm reception and the genuine interest in Purisima’s tourism offer.

Technical Cooperation for Future Growth
The meeting also included technical leads Jose Roberto Camargo Perez, Tourism Director of Purisima and Pilar Lopez, Tourism Director of Medellin Both officials pledged to facilitate the exchange of “best practices,” focusing on how both destinations can leverage their heritage to attract high-value international travelers.
This rapprochement marks a new chapter for Purisima del Rincon, positioning it not just as a destination, but as a proactive player in the global tourism business arena.
