Guanajuato positions as 2nd largest non-border exporting State and 7th in Mexico, with more than $16.664 billion in international sales

35 municipalities and 1,616 companies exported, of which 80% are MSMEs and they reached more than 130 countries

The Government of the People, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, highlights the results of Guanajuato’s foreign trade during the first five months of 2025.

Through the work of the Coordinator for the Promotion of Foreign Trade (COFOCE), Guanajuato reaffirms its role as an exporting power, reaching 16,664 million dollars in sales to the world.

Thanks to this performance, Guanajuato is positioned as the second non-border exporting State in Mexico and the seventh nationwide, consolidating its strategic relevance in the country’s economy.

Participation during this period:

  • 35 municipalities 
  • 1,616 companies 
  • 80% of which are MSMEs
  • With more than 215,000 direct jobs in Guanajuato

Guanajuatense products in the world:

  • They reached 131 countries
  • Including new strategic destinations such as: French Polynesia, Kyrgyzstan, and Sierra Leone

Strong growth was recorded in markets such as:

  • Thailand (+738%) in the fashion sector 
  • Australia (+62.5%) in the agro-food sector
  • Consolidating the international diversification of Guanajuato

The diversification process has reduced dependence on the United States, which now accounts for 82.5% of exports, while markets like Canada have seen a 52% growth in products such as vehicles, fresh food, and footwear.

Japan returned to the top 10 as the eighth destination, with increases in enamels, metalwork, and fresh foods, and the United Arab Emirates consolidated its position as the ninth market, with the addition of leather goods.

In terms of sector performance, the automotive and auto parts industry moderated its adjustment with a fall of -4.5%, but other industries showed great dynamism: pet products (+10%) and sporting goods (+77%) .

Growth in agrofoods:

  • Fresh peppers (+11%) 
  • Blueberries (+21.5%) 
  • Frozen strawberries (+20%) 
  • With Canada and Australia as expansion partners

In fashion, growth stood out in:

  • Cowboy boots (+8%) 
  • Leather goods (+18%) 
  • Hats (+7.6%) 
  • Footwear parts (+81%)

In construction, faucets grew 100%, while crafts, ceramics and decoration had a significant increase towards Guatemala (+332%) and the Netherlands (+116%).

Through COFOCE the People’s Government reaffirms its commitment to the internationalization of Guanajuato.
